Dr. Alex Goldowsky is a gastroenterologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Goldowsky completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess, and his gastroenterology fellowship at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine. His academic interests are focused on general gastroenterology, functional GI disorders, and disorders of gut brain interaction such as irritable bowel syndrome, with an emphasis on digestive health in the LGBTQIA+ community. He also has a passion for medical education and improving trainee and provider knowledge on LGBTQIA+ digestive health.
Dr. Goldowsky has been actively involved in numerous LGBTQIA+ affinity groups, including the Harvard Medical School LGBTQIA+ Dean’s Advisory Committee. He is a founding member of Rainbows in Gastro, where he serves as the treasurer and seeks to work with our partner organizations to amplify the mission of RIG.
Dr. Goldowsky has authored numerous manuscripts in high-impact journals such as Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology. His work advocates for LGBTQIA+ trainees in medicine and gastroenterology, improving medical education delivery, and how to best improve care for LGBTQIA+ patients with digestive diseases. He has been invited to present at prestigious national and international conferences, including Digestive Disease Week (DDW) and the LGBT Health Workforce Conference.
