Dr. Duong is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University where he serves as the division’s LGBTQ+ ambassador. He earned his M.D. at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Georgetown University Hospital. During his time in residency, he was selected as one of the AASLD Emerging Liver Scholars. He also received several teaching, mentorship and scholarship awards. He completed his Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships at the Virginia Commonwealth University.
To date, he has published nearly 40 peer-reviewed articles. He found his passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion related advocacy work when he experienced, first-hand, the inequities faced by LGBTQ+ people as an openly “out” trainee and patient. To that end, he decided to start a non-profit with Dr. Sonali Paul, Rainbows in Gastro. Since then, he has been invited to present at ACG virtual grand rounds and moderated AGA symposia on topics related to creating an inclusive environment for patients and trainees.
